GUEST BOOK REVIEW
From the get go, I must say that this story just grabbed me and held on, family style stories have a thing of staying with me and queen sugar is no exception. Since I watched the first few episodes, I now look forward to reading the book and get the foundation of where this lovely story began from.
Queen Sugar is the story of the Bordelon family – Nova a journalist and activist, Charley, wealthy basketball wife and Ralph Angel who just got out of jail, and not forgetting Aunt Vi. Each of their stories play out in the first episode explaining who is who and their part in the family hierarchy.
In episode one we watch as Charley’s husband is hit by a scandal that shakes her to her roots and as the story unfolds we see how her love for her husband at first makes her stand by his side and after finding out the truth, breaks her down.
The scenic imagery that is involved seems to draw you closer and involves you deeply in this family story as we watch how Ralph Angel tries (and sometimes fails) time and again to redeem himself, Nova’s love for a married man who works in a law enforcement, Aunt Vi’s love for her boyfriend, how Charley tries to cope and also be there for her son during the ensuing fallout with her husband.
All this coupled with the death of their father and the inheritance of the sugar cane farm that their father left behind makes queen sugar more intriguing and captivating.
For a start, this is a 4* for me.
A truly good watch, can’t wait for season two.
